Tomorrow is election day.
Get out and vote, people!
I don't write much about politics in my blog, because there are a million other bloggers that do that much better than I ever could. And because I don't really want to identify what political party I belong to (or usually vote for). Maybe that's a sign of my family and cultural background. My father felt that political affiliation, like religion and money, was intensely personal. He hated bumper stickers, yard signs, lapel pins, any advertisement of political ideology. He never revealed whom he voted for in an election, though as I grew older I was able to form an educated guess.
I also grew up in the only state in the union that still has no voter registration: North Dakota. Of this, my father approved. It meant that you didn't have to declare a political party (e.g. by checking a box on a form), and there was no central record of registered voters kept by government bureaucrats: none of their damn business! My father was, by temperament, a libertarian.
My car sports no bumper stickers and I wear no lapel pin. We do have one sign in our yard, supporting one of the local city council candidates (non-partisan).
Thus I say, without displaying my bias in this election, without revealing intensely personal information, without painting myself blue or red -- get out there and vote for your candidates! Enjoy your touch screens or levers, your number 2 pencils and SAT-like ovals, your markers and arrows, or whatever form of voting your district provides. Hold your heads, high, citizens! Go forth and proclaim, "I am proud to be an American!"
Get out there and kick some Republican ass!
WOOT!
